Features or notes about the quilt's appearance, materials, or construction:

The owner was told the pattern was called "Big Dipper", but this quilt does not resemble that quilt description in Brackman, nor is it found in Rehmel. Essentially the block is composed of 9 identical 9 patches set on point. A remarkable feature of the quilt is that the patches in the block were cut 1" originally and finish to .5" square, and the entire quilt is hand-pieced. The very stable turkey red dye color does suggest an early date for this quilt, but it is not possible to confirm the "1900" date the seller gave it.
