No Keener Revelation
Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa | Cotton, Hobbs Thermore batting, acrylic felt, and Seweeze, Superior, and YLI thread; machine pieced and appliquéd, machine and hand quilted

One of the tragedies of Nelson Mandela's long imprisonment was that he missed the growing up of his own children. After he became President of South Africa's young democracy, he often visited schools and children's hospitals. In 1995 he established the Nelson Mandela's Children Fund that continues to work among the young people of our country.

As a piano teacher and school music teacher I have a special love for children. I have watched my students grow from small children into adults whose skills and abilities are crucial to a healthy society. Children who passed through my doors are now teachers, nurses, doctors, business people, veterinarians, IT specialists, community leaders and so much more.

It is vitally important that we always remember that today's children are tomorrow's adults. In their small hands lies our future. We should treat them with dignity and respect. We should teach values of integrity, and love for fellow humans. We should, above all, recognize that they are vulnerable, and need our utmost care. The words of Mandela on this quilt are a powerful message to every nation, not just South Africa.
