Small patchwork quilt with a centre design of a red star in a white star in a blue circle surrounded by strips of ribbon. Surrounding hexagons of silk, brocade and velvet. Backed with oddments with a soft woolen interlining.

Describe anything about the history of the quilt that wasn't already recorded in a previous field:

In 1850 Mary Blaine and her husband emigrated to Adelaide, Australia where the quilt was always placed on the end of Mary's bed. Mary's daughter, Francis Ann, married Nathaniel Hawke. They emigrated to Pretoria in 1903. Francis died in Pretoria and passed it on to her daughter who moved to East London. She donated it to the museum in 1959.
