Previous owners of this quilt were, Kitty Garner; Glenn Thomas, present owner, 1985-present; Cennie Thomas, father, 1969-1985; Leila Read Thomas Overman, 1932-1969; Glenn's mother, 1913-1932; Sylvester Read, 1898-1913. This quilt came to Arizona in February 2003.

The quiltmaker lived in Cheshire, Mass, 1831-1836; New York, 1836-1852; Knox Co, Ohio, 1852-1883; Custer Co, Nebraska, 1883-1913. He made other quilts. Sylvester Read began to make quilts for income when he could no longer "work" on the farm. He was a civil war Union Soldier, Co "C", 15th Regiment, Ohio Volunters (more on back of page, not visible). He made 2 matching quilts, one he sent to President Wm. McKinley as an inaguration gift.
