Bridal Bouquet Quilt Pattern
This appliqued quilt is 82 inches by 92 inches when finished, including a six-inch border.
It will require 10 yards of background material for the top and 6 1/2 yards for the back, and 40 yards of bias tape. It is best to cut the border strips first, and most economical to tear eight inches off one selvage right through the ten yards, for that will leave a strip 26 inches, which is just wide enough for a row of the large diamonds which make up the body of the quilt.
To cut a large diamond, fold a piece of paper 16 1/2 inches by 14 1/2 inches two ways so it measures 7 1/4 by 8 1/4 inches. Cut triangularly from a point 7 1/4 inches from the center on one side to a point 8 1/4 inches from the center on the other side, and when opened up the paper will be the correct size of your pattern for the large center diamond. This will allow ample material for seams.
The flowers in the bouquets will give you a grand chance to use up those tiny scraps of material which aren't big enough for larger blocks, for if you don't care to make all the bouquets just alike, you can use practically any colors of plain or print material for the little flower patches, since they are conventional in design and not meant to be lifelike.
When the blocks are all put together, bias tape is sewed on over the seams, and where the seams join a small flower is appliqued on, giving the effect of a trellis.
