Flint Institute of Arts
From QuiltIndex
"Established in 1928, the FIA was founded by community leaders who felt the city needed a place where students could pursue studio courses and the public could enjoy art exhibitions. In 1958, the FIA moved to its current site, located in what was to become the cultural and academic heart of Flint, the Flint Cultural Center. Over the years, the Flint Institute of Arts has emerged as one of Michigan’s largest and most enduring fine arts museums.
Today, the museum’s permanent collection includes more than 7,000 works of art, many of which are by renowned artists from the past and present. In addition to installations of the permanent collection, eight to ten special exhibitions are scheduled each year. The FIA Art School offers classes for students from age 2 1/2 to senior citizens, and thousands of adults and children visit the museum or participate in its programs annually."
