"The Historical Society of Kent County was founded in 1936 to collect, preserve and disseminate information pertaining to the rich history of Kent County on Delmarva's upper Eastern Shore. In 1958, the Society purchased the Geddes Piper House, and began the significant restoration of this Federal period townhouse which serves as the organization's headquarters: houses the Society's collection of family history and genealogy, archival documents, textiles and artifacts; and is the only historic home in Kent County open to visitors on a regular basis.

Upon entering its eighth decade, the Historical Society is embarking on several exciting projects, including the cataloging of our collection through software purchased with funds from the Hedgelawn Foundation, and taking a fresh look at the Geddes Piper as an interpretive history center for the region.

We are also exploring means by which we may best provide information resources pertinent to the preservation issues facing our region, with a commitment to not only preserving bricks and mortar, but community."
