They have approximately 10 historical quilts in their collections plus three new patchwork wall hangings that depict scenes related to xenophobia. As of February 2010 the collections are temporarily inaccessible for research viewing while a new collections facility is being prepared.

Iziko Museums is one of South Africa’s Flagship Museums and embraces a cluster of museums in the Cape Town region, including the South African Museum, Slave Lodge, Groot Constantia, Koopmans-De Wet House,Bertram House, Bo-Kaap Museum, Rust en Vreugd and the William Fehr Collection in the Castle.

"This information originally gathered in 2010 by Marsha MacDowell, Michigan State University Museum, during research on quilt history in South Africa that was supported by a fellowship from the International Quilt Study Center and Museum at University of Nebraska-Lincoln with additional in-kind support from Michigan State University Museum."
